Road Closures

Country Club Road (from Kipp Rd to Donmyer Rd)

Country Club Road from Kipp Road to Donmyer Road will be closed Monday, September 25th, for the replacement of the deteriorated concrete deck on the existing triple-barrel reinforced concrete box (RCB) drainage structure located on the immediate east side of the Country Club Road/Gypsum Valley Road intersection. No through traffic will be possible during the construction period and motorists are advised to allow a few extra minutes of travel time to reach their destinations. Owners of land along Country Club Road from Kipp Road to Donmyer Road will still be permitted to access their properties from the east side of the work zone. Completion of the new RCB deck and reopening of this section of Country Club Road is anticipated by the end of November. Of course, completion by this date is dependent on the weather.

Saline County opened bids on the Reinforced Concrete Box (RCB) Deck Replacement Project on April 20, 2017. The low bidder was L&M Contractors, Inc. of Great Bend, Kansas. They were awarded a contract for $164,890.25`. The project is funded from the 2-mil fund for bridge and culvert replacement.

Map Location

Crawford Street (east of Gypsum Valley Rd)

The Crawford Street bridge over an unnamed tributary to Gypsum Creek which is located 100 feet east of Gypsum Valley Road was inspected on April 18, 2017 in accordance with the FHWA-mandated bridge inspection program requirements. As a result of this inspection the bridge was closed on April 18, 2017 to permit the Saline County Road and Bridge Department Engineering staff the opportunity to perform a more detailed assessment of the condition of the bridge. The closure of this bridge does not cut off access to any private properties.
Federal law requires that bridges that cannot be certified to carry at least a three-ton load must be closed to protect public safety. It is not known at this time how long this bridge will be closed.

Humbargar Road (from Gypsum Valley Rd to Donmyer Rd)

Humbargar Road from Gypsum Valley Road to Donmyer Road will be closed Monday (September 25th) morning to permit placement of a multi-layer polymer concrete overlay on the deck of the bridge over Buckeye Creek which is located on Humbargar Road, approximately 0.2 mile west of Donmyer Road. No through traffic will be possible during the construction period and motorists are advised to allow a few extra minutes of travel time to reach their destinations. Local and emergency traffic will be provided access to private property within the sections of closed road at all times but only from the sides of the bridge upon which the property lies. The only times these properties may not be accessible might be during possible critical stages of construction when it is impractical to carry on construction operations and simultaneously allow local traffic. Completion of the work on the bridge and reopening of this section of Humbargar Road is anticipated by the end of the workday on Thursday, September 28th.

Saline County opened bids on Project No. 16-5350 Deck Repair and Multi-Layer Polymer Concrete Overlay on March 21, 2017. This project consists of placement of polymer overlays on seven bridges. Polymer overlays help to protect and extend the life of the bridge decks. The low bidder was Bettis Asphalt & Construction, Inc. of Topeka, Kansas. They were awarded a contract for $139,428.50. The project is funded from the 2-mil fund for bridge and culvert replacement.

Mentor Road from Cunningham Road to Niles Road will be closed starting Monday morning September 18th, to permit placement of a multi-layer polymer concrete overlay on the deck of the bridge over West Gypsum Creek. The bridge is located on Mentor Road, approximately 0.6 mile east of Cunningham Road. Completion of the work on the bridge and reopening of this section of Mentor Road is anticipated by end of the workday on Thursday, September 21st. Of course, completion by this date is dependent on the weather.
